After being fired as Timberlake's social director on Visiting
Day, 1969, I joined Tarigo's staff and had the time
of my life. Aside from Jack P. (my former E.R. neighbor), I wonder if anyone
remembers me? (Ellen, Sue, Diane Yuk-Yuk). It would surely be fun to chat. |
||||||||||||

I remember color war that year, and I believe we had a tie.
Could that be? |

Into the lake, all you campers!

Hi Michael,
|

|
|
||||||||||||
|
Just so strange seeing all these names some come back to me
after seeing them Thanks Rick for keeping this going |
||||||||||||
|
Hi Irene-i remember you well and count
me in on meeting at Gales for a soda-i don't live
far from Tarigo.
|
||||||||||||
|
Rick: I think Irene has the seed of a great idea. In addition to
running your fabulous guided tours of Lower Manhattan, you could run them of Tarigo. As I recall you saying, the biggest drawback to
the weekend reunions was that, due to the wide disparity in ages, many of the
campers had never known one another. You could solve that problem by
organizing the tours into small groups, say 15 to 25, based on the years they
went to camp, and run multiple excursions throughout the summer in the form
of day trips. Those wishing to stay overnight could provide for their own accomodations. This way you wouldn't be on the hook
financially, at least not to the degree you were for the reunions, and you
might even make a (well-deserved) profit. |
||||||||||||
|
Rick how would you like to help me organize a day trip up to camp.I would love to walk the hills of health one more
time...Stop off at Gales for an ice cream soda..... |

rick`s recent e-mail about the museum and neg
nord nud prompted me to
sit down and write some camp stuff.some months ago
after a recent move i found a photo from 1960 of perry koslow, ira povell, my first
counselors, howie rabinowitz
and jack bregman( crazy nature counselor, all
sitting with their shades looking as they thought cool.i
intend to go into some storage and try to find my old picture albums from
camp and send once found to the museum.i was one of
the upper seniors who was part of the creation the neg
nord nud, just as gary describes on the web page.i
can`t believe it still goes on.rick, thanks for
your hard work and dedication in preserving our camp history. |

Today I found out that a woman who I have known for years, and
am very good friends with is the widow of Bobby Singer! This is so crazy and
random. We were having lunch today w/ a group of our friends when the subject
of camp came up and I started to wax poetic about my wonderful summers at
camp. Someone at the table asked me the name of the camp and I said "oh
you wouldn't know it, it was a very small camp in
upstate NY, called Camp Tarigo". My Friend
Donna turned to me and said "my husband went to Camp Tarigo"!
It took me a minute to put all the pieces together and then I realized OMG
your husband was Bobby Singer...I got goose bumps all over...I remember Bobby
Singer very well. Dr. Robert Singer died of ALS several years ago, and my
friend Donna runs a charity for ALS in his honor here in Miami...what a
strange, small world this is!!!! |

You made some good points there. I did a search on the topic and
found most people will consent with your site.

Happy Holidays, campers. All the best to you and you and you in

"We are the boys of TA-RI-GO you hear so much about. The
people stop and stare at us whenever we go out..." REMEMBER??? |
||||||||||||
|
Wow...lots of memories! |
||||||||||||
|
As I get lder my memories become more sketchy. Uncle Pacy was
indeed one of my uncles. The photographs are powerful triggers that jog those
deeply embedded neuron that still fire occasionally. I also remember the
color war songs and the alma marter. You could
imagine the grins and the hoots from my family when I found myself in the
group photos. They were almost embarrassed for me when I started singing the
various songs. |
||||||||||||
|
I regret to inform you that Bobby Waldman recently died. He was
57, living in Mt. Kisco, and left three children. |
||||||||||||
|
What a walk down Memory Lane...Attended Ta-Ri-Go
'64-'68 and loved it (particularly Color War).

Jack, Lenni, Steven, Ellen and myself, along with most of our family members, went to
TARIGO today. We took pictures by sniders (of course singing Hiking on the
highway as we walked there), at the lake (now Lori Stamford's pond), at the Tarigo girl's basketball
courts, at the Tarigo sign and last but not least
took pictures by the fireplace where the rec hall used to be. Lori, Scott and
David Stamford's mom brought us by Michael Lewis' campgrounds where Michael
and Beaver shared stories with us. We then went to the Fleischmans
museum where they have a wall of Tarigo pictures.
After Tarigo we went to Woodstock. Memories,
memories, memories.....What a great day!!! This was up there with the Carol
King and James Taylor Concert. I went to the concert with Susan Glatter, Randy Klein, Ellen Pinsky (and we saw Janie Halper).
Please...Let's Have a Reunion!!!!!!! |
||||||||||||
|
Believe it or not the entire Pinsky
family has not been in Fleischemanns as a full
family since 1977. That is about to chance this Saturday ans
we make a pilgrimage long overdue. All are welcome to join us. |
||||||||||||
|
The Fleischmanns Museum has a separate
area for Camp Tarigo memorabilia.Please
consider donating any camp memorabilia you may have to the museum so that
many of the old campers who come by the museum can appreciate them.(Any photos, plaques from the social hall, song sheets,etc.) will be preserved for future generations.You can contact the museum on line. |

On March 15, 2010, during that terrible storm, a tree fell down
and killed Larry Krause (50) while he was leaving his synagogue in Teaneck.
Larry was a former TARIGOite. Our sympathies to his
family and friends. He was also an attorney who worked in Manhattan. He had a
wife and six children. |

Joel, all is forgiven. |

I worked at Ta-Ri-Go in the summer of
1969. I was the counselor in the waiters' bunk as well as a camp driver. I
took the job, because my girlfriend and her mother - both artists - were
living in Woodstock and I wanted to be up there too.

nice site keep it up ok |
||||||||||||
|
It was great seeing all those old pictures. I had many wonderful
years at camp. |
||||||||||||

This is to inform those who do not know that Craig
"Hoodie" Mendel who attended Tarigo in
the 70's has passed away. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. |
||||||||||||
|
Please add me to campers that attended. |
||||||||||||
|
As you can see, I've upgraded the look of our Website. We just
passed over 12,300 hits from mostly former campers. So I guess people are
still enjoying the site and it is helping old friends find each other. The
program also removes @ and . from
your email address so that spammers cannot use programs to gather them for
spamming. If you have any other ideas about the site, please let me know.

I remember on the hikes back up the hill from town, the old camp
truck would come along and we would all climb on. We probably could have
walked faster then the truck went, but it was great
at the time. |

A late August visit to Fleischmanns -

Happy 40th Anniversary. Was watching programs on Woodstock this
weekend. It brought back memories of our 1969 senior boys group, "The
Whiz Kids." What a great summer. Monty

Great memories. One years as a waiter
and one as a counselor. I remember the walks up the hill after movie night in
town. Tarigo's also where I got introduced to the
Doors.(hearing "The End" at age 17 was a
trip). Would appreciate hearing from anyone else around in those years. |

I'm sure I've got great memories, if only I can remember them
(now where did I put my keys?)

My 9 year old Grandson went off to Camp today and I just
remembered Camp Ta-Ri-Go. Thought I would look it
up and "wow". I'm 68 and can remember "Pacy"

I think back to my camp years with great pleasure. I remember
standing on the porch of the arts and crafts building listening to the news
about the A bombing of Hiroshima. I now have a home in Roxburt
NY and pass Tarigo whenevr
going or returning to NJ. My kids and grandkids use it in the winter and ski
at Bellayre and Plattekill
mountains. I guess I am one of the oldest Tarigo
alumni. |
||||||||||||
|
My family had a vacation home in Fleischmanns
in the 70's and 80's, and in the early 80's we stumbled upon Camp Tarigo while motorcycling through the woods. The camp at
that time was still very much in-tact, but completely abandoned. We were
always facinated with the camp, and the history of
it, but were never able to find any information. It's really exciting to find
this website. When we first discovered it we spent days exploring the camp.
Over the years that followed the camp was vandalized and most of the camp
equipment was subsequently stolen. And I was sad when the property was
developed. Keep up the great website! |
||||||||||||
|
Glad to see you are up and running again |

In 1960, the color war teams were the Vikings and Romans. The
Vikings, led by Perry Koslow, won the war. Perry
was a memorable general.

Anyone else during these years?

Here we are saying saying goodbye at
the station. Summer vacation is taking you away. Have a good time, but
remember: There is danger in the summer moon above! Will I see you in
September? Or lose you to a summer love?

hope all is well with everybody.. when you
turn 60 you start getting very nostalgic! |

NY Magazine names Fleischman's NY a good place to purchase a econd home- current population
there is about 350. |

I have very fond memories of Camp. I still remember
"Uncle" Jerry getting us bunch of "ball players" out into
the woods for a hike with the hope that we would find an Indian burial
ground. It was a brilliant ploy and we had a great time. I also remember learning
the Hebrew grace, that I did not know, from a fellow
camper on the way down to the dining room.

Stumbled upon this site by accident. I played the piano for
shows and color wars over two fun summers, often under the direction of Joe
Allen [GREASE, WEST SIDE STORY]. The Allens were
distant relatives. In 1974, showing sympathies to Patty Hearst, et. al., the TaRiGo Liberation Army, a band of dissatisfied counselors
and staff, lashed out by taking over... [something;
was it the flagpole?]. During late 80s, while visiting friends in Woodstock,
I visited the site and saw the demolition in progress. In the mid-90s, while
watching a friend's friends' slide show, I realized that they built a house
on the site of my TaRiGo bunk. Currently practicing
as an actury consulting to multiemployer pension
funds in NYC area [and still playing the piano]. Cheers. |

great summer.nice to see all the names
of the people that i have thought about over the
years |
|||||||||||||||

Thank you Kathy Shenker for telling me
about this website. I have very fond and vivid memories of Tarigo, and, like Kathy, I was the youngest camper there
the first summer I went. I remember the way the bunks looked, how cold the
lake water was first thing in the morning, the "bug juice" and
chocolate milk and cookies after rest hour. And, of course, the plays --
Sound of Music, Cinderella, Peter Pan, etc... I was always on the color war
team that lost, but it was still a highlight of the summer. The last night of
every summer we always cried and sang "Friends, friends, friends, we
will always be." How great that so many people have kept in touch.
|
|||||||||||||||

My great uncle told us about you. I can't recall the years he
stayed their but he said it was a blast |
|||||||||||||||
|
IN 1963 I had the claim to fame of being the youngest camper @ Ta-ri-go not having yet
been to first grade. I loved Ta-ri-go and no other
camp quite compared. I still get goose bumps when I hear Beautiful Dreamer. I
would love to hear from any of you who loved camp like I did. I still look
for green and white Syracuse china cuz it reminds
me of camp. The last time I was up there,Fleischmans
looked a bit different with quite a sizable Hasidic community. I'd definitely
try to make a reunion and would like to be on any lists. Go blue and Grey!

Still have friends from Tarigo in my
life. Glen Kessler visited me from California. We went to the JCH and saw
some old photos from our basketball playing days and spoke of fond memories
from camp. Happy holidays to everyone out there and a very healthy one to our
families. Love Monty |

These assholes who are hacking this website are truly demented.
Can you just imagine how stupid they are and how miserable their lives must
be if they consider this entertainment? Disgusting, revolting, repulsive,
repugnant - all these words apply to them (if indeed there is more than one).
I hope their lives become even more miserable as time progresses!

I was in many of the musicals at Tarigo
from '58-'62 and I wonder if anyone has any pics of any of these shows they
can email me privately. I have the fondest memories of Tarigo
